Veritas Miniature Right-Hand Shooting Plane

Only 5 5/16" long with a 3/4" wide blade, this is a fully functional 1:3-scale version of the veritas right-hand shooting plane. A superb tool for precisely trimming smaller stock to length, it is useful for anything from picture framing to kumiko and similarly fine work.

The body is made of stainless steel, machined and ground with a sole and running surface that are accurately flat and square to one another. The running surface measures 0.71" wide, for an exacting fit within the track of the Veritas Miniature Shooting Board (offered separately on its own or paired with the miniature shooting plane).

To make shearing cuts that leave a clean finish on end grain, the blade bed is skewed 20° to reduce cutting resistance. Combined with the 12° bed angle and 25° blade bevel, this yields an effective cutting angle of 36°. Weighing just over 5 oz, the plane has a walnut tote and a Norris-style mechanism that combines feed and lateral adjustments so you can set the 0.060" thick A2 blade with precision.

Veritas Miniature Right-Hand Shooting Board

Modelled after the full-size shooting board, this 1:3 scale miniature adaptation is designed for use with the Veritas Miniature Shooting Plane, adding a measure of control to precise trimming tasks.

Made of 11/16" thick Baltic birch plywood, it has a 3/8" tall cleat on the bottom for solid registration against the edge of a workbench. The 8" long extruded aluminum track is sized for a precise fit with the miniature shooting plane, ensuring the plane glides smoothly and tracks straight. And if by some chance you happen to find another plane with a 0.67" to 0.73" running surface, that should work, too!

The shooting board has a fence fixed at 90° to the track, and can be used with angle blocks or shop-made jigs for trimming miters or other angled cuts.
