Lie-Nielsen's smoothing planes are precision machined from a manganese bronze casting, or, as in this model, an iron casting. They have the Stanley Bedrock style frog which gives a fully machined mating fit between the frog and body. You can move the frog backwards or forwards, allowing the opening or closing of the plane's mouth without having to remove the lever cap or blade. 

The No.4 The equivalent of a later type Stanley Bedrock No.604. 

• 9-1/2" (241mm) long.
• 2" (50mm) wide blade. A2 steel.
• Iron body 4 lbs (1.8kg)

Supplied with a Lie-Nielsen plane sack (no box).
