"Happy with the adze After using lighter elbow adzes for many years the heavier weight took some getting used to . Henry Taylor steel is OK Takes and keeps a fine edge Never having used any Swedish adzes cannot compare but this English made one holds an edge just as well as hultafors carpenter axe steel does (ie a LONG time) have cut out one or 2 bowl forms already. Adze works best for me with a thrown slice type of cut rather than a crude chopping action. It’s like having a mallet and gouge in one hand. With practise will produce accurate clean cuts. I find it works well on larger spoons and ladles for rough cross cutting the crank and bowl. Used it on sycamore and ash so far no problems. Admittedly It was a bit of a nuisance having to remove the thick acrylic paint finish (resin?) from the back of the bevel to fine polish it but not too long a job Well worth the £££££"

"Really this is a great bowl adze, especially for the price. Once you have the angle in your muscle memory it goes from good to really good! I already had a straight blade HT adze so I was not surprised at the quality of the steel, it holds an edge really well, none of my HT adzes have ever chipped.
I found the handle slippery with a protective finish (as with my other HT adze), it made it uncomfortable and tiring to use causing a blister! So I sanded it (but not too smooth), and took the handle width in a little, and boom, perfect. No blister, a good grip (important with an adze!) and all day comfort.A coating of linseed or walnut oil and job done.
Had for over a year and bought from classic hand tools. They have always been a great company to buy from, so if you need an adze and the price is right, I recommend it and them! Basically I am never selling it, don’t wait for mine to come up on an auction site! "
