Blue Spruce Router Plane
Product Description
Whether you rely on hand tools or prefer machinery, there are times when a joint needs just a slight adjustment. Machines struggle with removing a ''little bit'', and even many hand tools fall short. That’s where a router plane shines.
The Blue Spruce engineering team studied router planes from the late 1800s to today, designing a tool that appeals to both dedicated hand-tool users and newcomers alike. With three blade mounting positions—each allowing multiple orientations—and a backlash-free depth adjustment, this router plane offers the flexibility and precision you need.
Why Choose the Blue Spruce Router Plane?
- Unmatched Control – The sole references off the board’s surface while the blade cuts just below it. This makes it perfect for cleaning up and fine-tuning dadoes, grooves, and rabbets.
- Precision Depth Adjustment – Many router planes have frustrating depth controls, but the thumbwheel adjustment system eliminates backlash, helping you dial in the perfect depth effortlessly.
- Designed for Every Cut – Traditional router planes often had multiple variants to navigate tight spaces. Blue Spruce solved this by designing a large (3-1/2'' x 8-1/2'') sole with three blade positions. The blade mechanism can be adjusted in four directions, ensuring stability and smooth cutting, even in tricky spots.
- Comfort & Balance – Adjustable handles provide a secure, ergonomic grip, keeping the tool well-balanced in every cutting position.
Build Quality
- Machined for Perfection – The base is crafted from a solid billet of ductile iron, coated with black nitride for reduced friction and corrosion resistance.
- Tightly Engineered Blade Mechanism – The double-wedge locking system holds the blade securely without marring the shaft. The blade glides smoothly within the mechanism, ensuring accuracy with every pass.
- Customization Options – Countersunk holes allow you to attach custom shop-made fences, or you can choose the optional factory-made fence, which mounts in three different positions.
Blades Ready to Work
Each router plane includes both a square blade and a spearpoint blade. Unlike most hand tools, the back of each blade has been lapped to a mirror finish, requiring no extra preparation. The square blade is ideal for most tasks, while the spearpoint blade excels at reaching into tight corners.
