Robert Sorby Double Hooped Registered Chisel
Product Description
Originally it was thought that registered (or shipwrights chisels) were used by barge builders and they first appeared in the mid 19th century. “strong ship” or registered chisels were also described in the Scottish tool manufacturer Mathieson’s catalogue of 1900. More recently these chisels have become very popular with joiners and timber framers for mortising. The double hoops give protection to the ash handle to prevent splitting. These chisels feature a thick cross section of blade to make them more suitable for levering in deep joints.
