Information on the Record No. CS88 Calvert Stevens Smooth Plane
This plane is in the original presentation box, it has been used but is in G++ condition and has the original operating instructions leaflet.
The closest modern day UK made equivalent of this plane is now made by Thomas Flinn of Sheffield who took over the manufacturer of Clifton planes several years ago. The Clifton 4 1/2 retails on our website for £340. The CS88 is the same weight, so a hefty plane that stays on the job. The Norris style adjuster and original blade (little worn) with the very useful 2 piece cap iron (makes sharpening a lot quicker) make this plane a more than suitable alternative as a heavy smoothing plane.
