Hock Bench Plane Blades
Product Description
Ron Hock has earned an international reputation for the quality of his plane blades. Ron incorporates the same basic principles as used by 19th Century edge tools makers in his high carbon steel blades and updates these principles in his A2 cryogenically treated steel.
High carbon steel blades are easier to sharpen and will give you a fantastic cuting edge. However they will require more frequent sharpening.

"Hock Tools BP238 (A2) and BP238 (01) Plane Irons:
Both are excellent quality items. I now regularly use the A2 iron for shooting board work (most recently on 20mm oak boards which failed to blunt the edge after shooting multiple pieces ). The A2 edge seems to be notably more durable than I anticipated, although the 01 is also an excellent blade. The Lie Nielson A2 irons are similarly excellent, though their greater thickness compared to these is reflected in their much higher price.
I’d happily buy these Ron Hock irons again in future and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. With the A2 steel there is a marked reduction in the frequency of honing required compared to the 01, and a worthwhile time-saving as a result. The 02 steel will take an edge as surgically sharp as the 01 using diamond plates. The 02 edge is also very amenable to polishing with a strop between sharpening sessions which further reduces interruption to your work."
